Panasonic DP-UB420-K 4K Blu-ray Player

What it is

A 4K Blu-ray player with HCX picture processing, HDR10 Plus, HDR10, and HLG, plus an HDR Optimizer. It has twin HDMI outputs, Hi-Res audio support, Wi-Fi, 4K video on demand, voice assist, and 3D playback. It has no Dolby Vision and no analogue audio output. Region codes assume a US buyer, Region A Blu-ray and Region 1 DVD.

Who it is for

For someone who wants a step up from the basic 4K player, with Wi-Fi and twin HDMI, but does not need Dolby Vision.

What to check before you buy

• Check that you do not need Dolby Vision. This model does not have it.
• Some buyers reported freezing and random shutdowns, and a few said it would not play part of their collection, so test it across your discs early.
• The remote gets weak reports, and some buyers found the player slow to respond, so expect a plain remote and a calm pace.
• Buyers praised its upscaling, so it is a good match if you still watch a lot of standard DVDs alongside 4K discs.

Why it pairs with used media

Our shelves hold 4K discs, Blu-rays, and standard DVDs together, and this player handles all three while making the older DVDs look better than a basic player does.
