We have spent the last few months selling used movies, music, and games out of Fort Mill, mostly on eBay. This blog is looking to be the other half of that. A place to write about the stuff we care about instead of just listing stuff and moving on.
It started, fittingly enough, with a Matrix box set. That is the set that got us going, and we have been chasing that feeling ever since. The hunt for a movie you forgot you loved. The box set that completes a shelf. The CD you have not heard in ten years that still sounds exactly like it did.
We will post news when something worth knowing happens, top 10 lists when we feel like arguing about them, reviews of the stuff we watch and listen to, and guides for taking care of a collection. Nothing fancy. Just us writing about physical media like people who actually buy it.
Here is why we think that still matters. Streaming used to be the easy answer. One bill, everything in one place, no ads, no hassle. That is not what it is anymore.
Disney+ launched at $6.99 a month in 2019. By 2025 the ad-free plan was $18.99. Netflix standard was $12.99 in 2019. It is $19.99 now, and that is after they started charging extra if you share your password with your own family. You pay more every year, and you still get ads unless you pay more again.
And the shows themselves are not guaranteed to stay. In December 2023 Sony told PlayStation owners it was pulling 1,318 seasons of Discovery shows people had already paid for. It only backed off after everyone complained. This year it is doing the same thing in the UK with 551 StudioCanal movies, Paddington and Terminator 2 among them, gone from people's libraries on September 1 with no refund offered. You did not buy the movie. You bought permission to watch it until someone changes their mind.
A disk does not do any of that. Buy it once and it is yours. Nobody can raise the price on a DVD you already own, and nobody can take it off your shelf because a licensing deal expired. It plays the same in ten years as it does today, no subscription required.
That is what this shop is about, and that is what this blog will be about. Check back when you can. We will be here, listing discs and writing about them.
